The Apache Blue Mine turquoise mine, is a small mine with lots of potential. The mine is located near Tonopah, Nevada in the Candelaria Mountain range. In recent years the mine, (an open pit) has re-opened rendering Apache Blue turquoise with beautiful blue stones with eye popping black matrix. This high quality Apache turquoise is very rare and hard to find, even in this mine, but it's what every turquoise miner is searching for. Unfortunately only a small amount of this nice natural hard turquoise with really beautiful dark blue, webbed nuggets have been discovered. This turquoise is truly some of the nicest from Nevada.
Blue Gem
The Blue Gem mine near Battle Mountain, Nevada produced a great variety of turquoise, from intense blues to deep green combinations with a hard, irregularly distributed matrix. While there are other mines in Nevada of the same name, the Battle Mountain Blue Gem mine& the Tonapah Blue Gem Mine, which began production in 1934 and is now closed, yielded the most valuable Blue Gem turquoise because of its rich color and its hardness. It is greatly desired by collectors. One of our favorites! This is an all time favorite and classic American Turquoise.
Blue Ridge
Calendaria
The Candelaria mine(s) are claims located in the large Candelaria Open Pit Copper, Silver, and Gold Mine. The large ore company leases out the claims to a few mines infrequently. The finest turquoise is now located in a part of the mine so difficult, that it is almost unattainable. The turquoise is a good quality stone of high blue color with an intermittent black or brown, non-webbed matrix. The high-grade Candelaria is a translucent dark blue with a reddish brown spiderweb matrix. It is a hard, attractive stone. Candelaria also produces some of the most attractive Varascite, which comes in a wide spectrum of colors. Candelaria spider web varicite stone a mine with a rich history going back to the middle 1800s. This mine produces some of Nevada's best and most unusual Variscite. This is a very hard stone, high silica content. This mine produces some of the most unusual and beautiful stone patterns, no two stones are ever alike. Candelaria Because it is not frequently available and the mine is closed it is considered collectible.
Carico Lake Turquoise
Carico Lake turquoise is named after the location of its mine on a dried up lake bed in a high, cool area of Lander County, Nevada.
Its clear, iridescent, spring green color is due to its zinc content and is highly unique and collectable. Carico Lake turquoise is also found in a dark blue-green color with a black, spider web matrix. The Carico Lake mine is primarily a gold producing mine. The very limited amount of this turquoise and the limited time allowed to mine it makes this glorious turquoise a valuable addition to one's collection.
Crow Springs Turquoise
Crow Springs, also known as AnnJax or Bluebird, is located near Tonopah, Nevada. For 12 years, this rare stone has not been available until 3 years ago, when Dennis and Lucy Cordova took it over and began mining it. The Smith family previously owned the mine. This family had been mining turquoise in Nevada since the 1870’s. In 1909, William Petry discovered a deposit one mile southwest of the Crow Springs claim. In 1939, Ann Cooper Hewitt, heiress to the Cooper Hewitt fortune, made from inventing the mercury-vapor lamp and the first fluorescent lighting, filed claim to the mine and built a home there, which she called AnnJax. She did little work on the property and then abandoned it. Crow Springs is known for its characteristic light green color contrasted with a bright red matrix which is the host rock, rhyolite. The mine includes a tunnel that digs 175 feet into the mountain; inside of which, Dennis Cordova discovered a bountiful deposit of commercial grade gold and silver. The current owners are also co-owners of the Pilot Mountain mine. They have been mining for 3 years and cutting the precious stone for over 35 years.
Dry Creek Sacred Buffalo Turquoise
When discovered in the Dry Creek Mine on the Shoshone Indian Reservation near Battle Mountain, Nevada in 1993, they were not sure what it was. Because of its hardness, they decided to send it to have it assayed and their suspicions proved correct; it was in fact turquoise. It was not until 1996, however, that it was finally made into jewelry. Turquoise gets its color from the heavy metals in the ground where it forms. Blue turquoise forms when there is copper present, which is the case with most Arizona turquoise. Green turquoise forms where iron is present, the case with most Nevada turquoise. Sacred Buffalo turquoise forms where there are no heavy metals present, which turns out to be a very rare occurrence. The lack of any specific color consistency makes this stone distinctive and unique from other turquoises. To date, no other vein of this turquoise has been discovered anywhere else and when this current vein runs out, that will be the last of it. Authentic Sacred Buffalo Turquoise is from the Dry Creek Mine. Sacred Buffalo Turquoise is known as white turquoise, but is not to be confused with white buffalo, aka Howlite. They are not the same. Howlite (white buffalo) is a beautiful stone but it is not a turquoise. Do not be confused or misled into believing that howlite is white turquoise. Because this unique turquoise from the Dry Creek Mine is as rare as the sacred buffalo, the Indians call it "Sacred Buffalo" Turquoise. The Shoshone Indians are not known for jewelry work and as a consequence, the Shoshone sell or trade the Sacred Buffalo turquoise to the Navajos in Arizona and New Mexico, who then work it into jewelry. So many geologic chains of events must synchronize to create just one thin vein of turquoise that the mineral can rightly be envisioned as a fluke of nature. Turquoise is a rare and improbable product of an incalculable number of chemical and physical processes that must take place in the right combination and proper environment over a time span of hundreds of thousands - if not millions - of years.
Golden Hills Turquoise
Hachita turquoise is from a group of mines near Old Hachita, Grant County, New Mexico. They include the Azure, Cameo, Galilee, and Aztec claims. The stones are all natural and untreated gem quality American Turquoise. The old Lander ghost town site, roughly the center of this very productive turquoise area. Matrix is black to golden brown.
Number 8 Turquoise
Number 8 Turquoise is a highly prized turquoise stone used in all types of traditional, contemporary and Native American jewelry. It's valued for its trademark spider-web matrix of various shades of gold, black and brown that lace through its unique powder blue stone. With the Number 8 Turquoise mine depleted since 1961 and with limited reserves of this stone in existence, Number 8 turquoise jewelry is one of the most valuable and appreciated stones by collectors. Formed within its host rocks of quartz, chert, and shale, the Number 8 Turquoise Mine provided a consistent amount of valuable large nuggets in its years of production. Located west of the Tuscarora Range in the Lynn Mining District in Nevada, the turquoise from the Number 8 mine consistently displays a light blue color with an attractive spider-web matrix of various shades of black, brown, and gold. From 1925-1929, the Number 8 mine churned out a vast amount of nodular formed turquoise. While this particular deposit's turquoise depleted, the owners of the mine, the Edgar brothers, discovered another deposit of beautiful turquoise containing a spider-web matrix. The Number 8 Turquoise Mine yielded possibly one of the largest nodules known to man, a 150-pound behemoth of turquoise. With less than 10% of the Number 8 turquoise in quality form, a high value is placed on quality stones.
Royston Turquoise
Unbelievably beautiful! The mine located near Tonopah Nevada. Royston turquoise is known for its beautiful deep green to rich light blue colors. These unique color ranges are what make this stone so special. Royston stones are often two-tone, displaying both dark and light green and blue. Royston has a heavy matrix ranging from dark brown to gold in color. This matrix makes for beautiful combinations with the color variations of the stone. Royston turquoise is considered very collectible and a good investment.
The mine is no longer in operation as it has become part of a gold mining operation and a privately owned ranch. The mine was operating in the 70’s. You won’t find much of this great turquoise around, except for old stashes. It was shipped from this property for several years in the 70’s to Arizona and New Mexico where it was incorporated into collections sold by the local Indian tribes. A spider web matrix of colors ranging from golden brown to black set off the unique color of this stone. Beautiful green and blue/green colors were found. Turquoise from this mine presents some peculiar features: good color and extreme hardness, great matrix marking in spider web patterns and wafers. Turquoise from this mine is rarely seen today and of the best grade.
Tortoise Turquoise
Tortoise is green, blue/green and brown. It is in the host where you will find webbing - veins - swirls and shades of wonderful coloration. As you come into the center of the deposit/formation you will find multiple types of water marking that give the clear area of the stone its own characteristic as well, some forms a birds eye look. It’s solid 6-7 in hardness and delightful to cut. Sawing the rock is a stone cutters dream as it cuts smooth. The mine sits above 5,000 feet elevation in a secluded part of Midwestern Nevada. The climate hot! In the winter there is a reasonable amount of snow. We are sorry to not give out more info as to the location of the mine, but we are not letting out too much info about this mine, due to the overwhelming piracy accruing in Nevada right now. When we hire a few hermits to guard the mine, then we will let more info out. We have had to back filling every time we mine to ensure that nobody steals. We have barely tapped into this mineral resource, and are already liking what we see AA and AAA already here.
Turquoise Mountain and Birdseye
This turquoise come from the same mine in northwestern Arizona near the Kingman mine. The mine was closed in the 1980s. It is light to high blue, with both webbed and non-webbed matrix. "Birdseye" describes stones from this mine that show areas of light blue circled with dark blue matrix, resembling the eye of a bird. It is a beautiful addition to one's collection. Today, the Kingman Mine is operating again, specifically within the Turquoise Mountain peak. The Turquoise Mountain turquoise that is being excavated from this site looks significantly different from the 1970's stones, being lighter blue to green in color, with primarily non-webbed matrix. Turquoise Mountain remains highly collectible and is easily distinguished from other stones coming from the Kingman mine.

Ammolite, like all gem stones, should be cared for in a gentle manner. One of Nature’s Rarest Gems!
The legend of Ammolite goes back to the Blackfoot tribe of North America. Blackfoot Indian legend has it that the Ammolite sacred stone was a gift received from the gods. The story begins amidst a severely harsh winter with a blizzard wiping out all the Blackfoot Indian's food reserves. All the buffalo herds had moved on, and the crops had frozen up from the snow. A great famine besieged the people, and they were on the brink of starvation. Upon seeing the devastation that befell the Blackfoot people, the Great Goddess sent forth a message to the Indian princess in the form of a dream. In the dream, the Goddess directed the princess to a brilliantly colored gemstone, and told her: “Take this stone back to your tribe, for its magic will bring with it a huge herd of buffalo that will sustain you through the winter.”
The princess followed the instructions given to her in the dream. After days of intrepid and perilous travel, she found the stone hidden in a cave. She removed it and marveled at its brilliance. It was truly magnificent. The sunlight jumped and danced off of its rainbow colored skin, as the snow melted away from its smooth shiny surface. The princess hastily took the stone back to her people. The next day everyone was woken up by the earth quaking sound of stomping hooves. When coming out to see what had happened, the tribe found that a herd of over twenty buffalo had returned to pasture nearby. The people rejoiced at their salvation, and thanked the Goddess for her gift of the stone. Through the aid of Ammolite, the Blackfoot were able to survive that particularly harsh winter. And ever since, Ammolite has been commonly referred to as the “buffalo stone”, as it signifies wealth and abundance.
In 1908 a member of the National Geological Survey team found mineralized fossils of ammonite along the St. Mary's River in Alberta. It was not until 1981 that enough high quality Ammolite was discovered to make mining commercially viable.
